The performance transcends—and fully succeeds in doing so—the boundaries of traditional representation, bringing together theater and dance, opera singing, and a cinematic perspective, all wrapped in a highly distinct sound design. A breath of fresh air of experimentation can be felt. The audience is completely absorbed.
Queerness aesthetic. The marvelous costumes and the hyperbolic makeup of the performers convey the dimension of excess of the celebration. Everything is permitted: free love and its opposite, violence. Do what you desire. Free from social or gender conditioning. This is also a political message coming from a land, Greece, which has experienced and continues to experience critical situations over the last 20 years. Yet, within hardship, the seed of art shapes incredible fruits, and this work by Papakonstantinou is a shining example. Italian theater-makers, take note.
